On March 1, the Hampstead Women’s Club and the Kiwanis Club of Hampstead teamed up to host the Community Souper Supper. The event raised $820 for the Kiwanis scholarship and children’s programs.
“This was the first time we’ve undertaken such an event,” said Patricia Truscello, the president of the Hampstead Women’s Club. “Our membership was enthusiastic about volunteering for this event with the Hampstead Kiwanis Club. Together the two clubs served more than 19 varieties of delicious homemade soups.”
Volunteers from both clubs teamed up to serve a dinner of soup, salad, bread and beverage. Dinner was topped off with a sundae bar. The event was hosted at the Hampstead Women’s Club Building.
“Local merchants donated bread, ice cream and iced tea,” said Truscello. Subway in Hampstead donated fresh rolls. Harris Teeter in Surf City donated gallons of ice cream and Hardees donated both sweet and unsweetened tea. “Because of their generosity we were able to raise more than $800 for the Kiwanis programs in just three hours. We are grateful for their assistance.”
Joe Rogers, president of the Kiwanis Club of Hampstead, said the Community Souper Supper was well attended and the event received rave reviews. He said attendees requested another Souper Supper in the future. Both groups are looking forward to working together on a future event.
“Two non-profit groups working together for the common good of the children in our community demonstrates what outstanding organizations we have in Hampstead and the surrounding area,” said Truscello.
